Speaker – Andrew Birnie

Andrew qualified from Dundee Dental School in 2000 and has spent the vast majority of his career in Oral Surgery.

He spent seventeen years in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Royal Cornwall Hospital, the last five as a Consultant Oral Surgeon. Since returning to Northern Ireland in 2020, he has worked solely as a Specialist Oral Surgeon in primary care, with a practice limited to Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology.

Andrew has considerable training and experience across the whole remit of Oral Surgery, in both hospital and dental practice settings.

He previously managed the hospital dental implant service for the rehabilitation of oncology and facial trauma patients and has continued to develop his implant practice further in  recent years.

Andrew also led the hospital department’s intravenous sedation service and has significant experience in the provision of IV sedation. He understands that patients are often anxious about surgical procedures but believes that they can have a positive experience when managed correctly.

Andrew has a special interest in the Oral Surgery/ Orthodontic interface, with notable experience in the surgical removal or exposure of impacted teeth. He is also comfortable with the assessment and management of oral soft tissue lesions and cystic lesions of the jaws.
